In this episode Lizzie Henden and Jeremy White talk about their plans for implementing the Respite Rooms trial in Bristol, they discuss how they recently won the bid for funding and how this new initiative will impact domestic abuse survivors in the city.
Lizzie Henden is a Senior Public Health Specialist in Bristol’s Public Health Team. The aim of the role is to improve health outcomes and reduce health inequalities in Bristol and to plan, deliver and evaluate Public Health initiatives. This has included supporting various work areas across sexual health, domestic abuse and sexual violence, children and young people and COVID-19 response. Lizzie is also part of the team responsible for commissioning domestic abuse and sexual violence services. Lizzie has also worked with a number of communities in her time in Public Health in Bristol, Somerset, South Wales, Bath & North East Somerset and Madagascar. Lizzie has had an active role with the British Red Cross and the Emergency Response Unit working in the Cyclone Idai response in Mozambique and the population movement in Bangladesh, as part of the Mass Sanitation team.
Jeremy White has been Commissioning Manager for Homelessness & Pathways Accommodation within Housing and Landlord Services at Bristol City Council since October 2020. Prior to Bristol City Council, he held a range of roles in business process outsourcing, property and building management, and the third sector. He is passionate about providing accommodation with support that is psychologically and physically safe, person-centred, and enables the best possible outcomes for people with complex needs who have experienced trauma and adversity in their lives.
